Target Waste
Every month in Christchurch we generate enough rubbish to fill a rugby field to a depth of 4 metres - that's 1 metre above the crossbar!
By doing things smarter you can make big reductions in the amount of waste sent to landfill and save your business money.
Target Waste - What's in it for you?
- Reduce the cost of waste disposal
- Create a competitive advantage – make your business a leader in sustainable business practice
- Take pride in working for an environmentally conscious business
Target Waste - What's in it for the Environment?
- Christchurch disposed of 253,000 tonnes of waste into the Kate Valley landfill from January 2007 to December 2007. This is not sustainable and wastes resources.
- We can't just keep burying our rubbish and hoping it will go away.
Calculate your waste production
This can be as simple as counting the number of full rubbish bags, wheelie bins and skips you generate each week and finding out how much you pay to have your waste removed. It is advisable to do this before you set up your waste reduction programme, because this will give you a baseline to measure your progress against.
Waste Audit
A waste audit gives you a greater understanding of your waste. By measuring the types and quantity of waste generated in your business which is currently going to landfill, you will be able to calculate where you can reduce, recycle and redirect different types of waste. This will lead to a more efficient process and take you steps closer to Target Sustainability.
